The monitoring station is within an existing (timber) single-storey building located in gardens in the west-end of central Manchester 35 metres away from the nearest road. Traffic flow along the road is predominantly diesel vehicles. The manifold inlet is approximately 4 metres high. The immediate surrounding area is open although the site is bordered by a bus terminus and by the Metrolink Tram System.
